  • Southeastern Symphony Orchestra

    Southeastern Symphony Orchestra

    The Southeastern Symphony Orchestra provides students a wide perspective of the orchestral palette, from string orchestra to chamber and full symphony orchestra. The Southeastern Symphony Orchestra was featured as the Collegiate Program for April 2018 by the Philadelphia International Music Festival.

    Marching Band

    Playing high energy arrangements and performing innovative drill designs, the “Spirit of the Southland” Marching Band has established itself as the center of spirit and pride at Lion athletic events.

  • Nationally Recognized Contemporary Dance Program

    Nationally Recognized Contemporary Dance Program

    Southeastern's Dance program has been exploring dance as a moving art for over 70 years with instruction in research, technique, and performance within a contemporary dance approach. Performance opportunities include Dance Performance Project, DPP2, and a yearly conference at ACDA, American College Dance Association.

Welcome to the Department of Music and Performing Arts, where our students experience a creative, fulfilling, and well-rounded academic and performing environment pursuing their goals in music and dance. The department offers diverse courses and ensembles seeking to prepare students to be leaders in their profession by studying with renowned faculty in performance, teaching, and research.


  • As the first music department in Louisiana to be certified by the National Association of Schools of Music, the department boasts a lengthy heritage of excellence in the training of educators and professional musicians

  • Student potential is nurtured by over 35 faculty musicians and and scholars who are leaders in their fields

  • A history of distinguished alumni holding prestigious positions nationally as performers and educators

  • Facilities include four performance venues, as well as a computer-assisted-instruction classroom and lab, an electric piano lab, recording facilities, and more

  • Offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of areas, as well as minors in Music or Choreography and Contemporary Dance Performance
