Programs

Classic Upward Bound

The Upward Bound Program provides pre-college academic assistance to low-income, potential
first-generation college students in the high school core curriculum areas of mathematics,
English, science, and foreign language. The Program also addresses other college preparatory
needs of high school students including financial aid assistance, academic/career
counseling, and GEE/ACT testing assistance.

Educational Talent Search

Educational Talent Search assists first-generation and/or economically disadvantaged
students to continue in and graduate from secondary school and to enroll in a postsecondary
educational program. The Southeastern Louisiana University Talent Search Program serves
students in selected schools grades 6 through 12 in Livingston, Tangipahoa, and Washington
Parishes.

Educational Opportunity Center

Program Summary: Southeastern Louisiana University’s Educational Opportunity Center
(EOC) is a federal grant program issued by the U.S. Department of Education. The program
assists first generation college and low income individuals 19 years of age or older
or those younger than 19 who are enrolled in an Adult Education Center living within
a 9-parish target area (East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Jefferson, Orleans,
St. John, St.Helena, Tangipahoa and Washington) in furthering their education beyond
high school and GED. The program provides various forms of aid in the areas of (1)
Academic Assistance, (2) Career Exploration, (3) Enrollment Counseling and (4) Financial
Aid Counseling. All services are free.

Math Science Upward Bound

The Math Science Upward Bound Program provides pre-college academic assistance to
low-income, potential first-generation college students with a focus on preparing
them for undergraduate degrees in math or science. In addition to a full array of
pre-college preparatory activities, students participate with faculty mentors in research
to stimulate interest in the fields of math and science.

Student Support Services

Student Support Services is an academic support program financially supported by the
U.S. Department of Education and the Center for Student Excellence whose goal is to
retain and graduate first generation, low income students and students with disabilities
from Southeastern.

All services are free of charge to qualified participants and include: Tutoring, Mentoring,
Academic, Career, Financial Aid, and Graduate School Counseling, Cultural Events,
and Workshops. The services enhance participants’ academic, career and personal development
skills and are designed to prepare participants for a successful college career as
well as for the working world after graduation.

Veterans Upward Bound

The Veterans Upward Bound Program provides eligible Veterans with academic assistance,
tutoring support services, career and job employment information, enrollment counseling,
financial aid advising and referrals to other Veteran related programs & services.
