Nina Erichson Haddad Endowed Scholarship in Nursing Nina Haddad, Ed.D. was instrumental in the planning and establishment of North Oaks
Hospital, as well as the BSN program at Southeastern. Dr. Haddad’s husband, Dr. Raymond
Haddad, endowed the scholarship in her memory. It will provide a student who qualifies
for admission to the honor society of nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, with
financial assistance.
Raymond & Nina Haddad Gamma Beta Phi Scholarship Both donors served in religious life and lived in Hammond and Ponchatoula during the
1960s. Ray was the first chaplain at St. Albert’s Chapel and Catholic Student Center
and supervised the construction of Cardinal Newman Hall on campus. Nina was a Nurse
Administrator and assisted with the establishment of the nursing school at Southeastern.
Education and scholarship were important to both Nina and Ray. Ray created the scholarship
in his will for an active member in good standing in Gamma Beta Phi Honor Service
Society.
Hammond Jaycees First Generation Endowed Scholarships The scholarship was established with funds provided by the Hammond Jaycees. It supports
a first generation student. A portion of the funds for this scholarship were provided
by a match from the Louisiana State Board of Regents.
Hammond Junior Auxiliary Miriam Newton Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established in the name of Miriam “Myrt” Newton, a founding member
of Hammond Junior Auxiliary. It benefits a female student graduating from Hammond
High School, Ponchatoula High School or St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
Hammond-Ponchatoula Sunriser Rotary Club Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established by the Hammond-Ponchatoula Sunriser Rotary. Rotary
is a global network of neighbors, friends, leaders and problem-solvers who see a world
where people unite and take action to create lasting change-across the globe, in our
communities and in ourselves. The scholarship benefits a student who resides in Hammond
or Ponchatoula.
Dr. Robert & Lydia Hardy Endowed Scholarship in Athletics (Baseball) The scholarship was established by Bob Hardy and his wife Lydia Waguespack Hardy ‘64,
who met at Southeastern. Bob was the starting pitcher for the Lions from 1959 to
1962 and is a member of the Southeastern’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Lydia was an English
major and member of the Thirteen Club. The scholarship benefits a Southeastern baseball
player.
Cathy Sue Reed Grinels Harrell Endowed Scholarship Cathy Harrell ‘88 spent her life championing others, particularly through the educational
systems in which she worked for the majority of her life. She received her Master’s
of Education in Special Education at Southeastern. In loving memory of his wife Cathy,
Tony Harrell established this scholarship for students admitted to graduate level
programs (masters or doctorate) in the College of Education.
Trevon Hatch Memorial Scholarship in Nursing The scholarship was established by Jonathan B. Hatch in memory of his brother’s son,
Trevon Hatch, who died at 12 years old from leukemia and will provide financial assistance
to a deserving Southeastern student majoring in Nursing.
The Joyce Helms Memorial Scholarship in Special Education The scholarship was established by her husband, Bobby Helms, who was the former owner
and operator of the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in Hammond, Amite and Ponchatoula.
The scholarship provides financial support to a Southeastern student pursuing a degree
in Special Education.
Norman Higginbotham Scholarship in Physics Dr. Higginbotham was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as the Head
of the Department of Chemistry and Physics and taught classes in Astronomy. Colleagues
in the department and contributions from family and friends helped to establish the
scholarship, which will provide assistance to a student majoring in Physics.
Lisa J. Hill Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established by the friends of Lisa Hill ‘91. Lisa was a Phi Mu,
and when she lost her battle against lupus her sorority sisters joined together to
memorialize her memory. It is for a Southeastern female who is a member of a Greek
fraternity or sorority.
Hal Robb Hopson Endowed Scholarship in History The scholarship was established by faculty member Claire Hopson Procopio and her mother
Carol Stein Hopson in honor of her Dad/husband. The student must be majoring in History,
with a preference for a History Honors student.
R.K. Hoddinott Endowed Scholarship in Business and Technology Reginald K. Hoddinott, III ’77, was the 2004 Distinguished Alumnus for Southeastern’s
Department of Business. He is a Senior Vice President for Merrill Lynch in New Orleans,
and established the scholarship in order to provide assistance to a student majoring
in Business.
Kenneth G. Holder Math Education Scholarship Mrs. Shirley Holder ‘68 ‘75, colleagues and friends helped to establish the scholarship
in memory of her husband, who dedicated many years to educating Southeastern students.

Holly & Smith Architects, Inc. First-Generation Endowed Scholarship The scholarship provides financial assistance to a first generation student from
Louisiana majoring in Visual Arts. Principal Architect and Founder Michael Holly and
Principal Architect and Design Director Jeff Smith believe in supporting the arts
and the local community. Their architecture firm is responsible for much of the revitalization
of Downtown Hammond and has a design imprint on Southeastern’s campus.
Hood Automotive Scholarship The scholarship was established by Bill Hood Automotive by Wiliam “Bill” Hood, Owner
and the scholarship will provide assistance to a student studying Business. Bill has
served on a number of community boards including the Hammond Chamber of Commerce and
First Guaranty Bank.
Gail Hood Endowed Scholarship in the Visual ArtsGail is a former faculty member in the Visual Arts department and the scholarship
was established by family and friends as a tribute to her years of dedication to
art students and to Southeastern. For two decades before her retirement in May 2006,
Hood taught drawing, painting, design, and art history in the Department of Visual
Arts. She was also a director of the department’s Clark Hill Gallery during her tenure.
Paul & Patty Hubert Program Endowment for Columbia Theatre The endowment was established by Paul and Patty to support quality programming at
the Columbia Theatre and bring the arts to patrons of the surrounding communities.
Diane Landry Hughes Memorial Scholarship Diane Landry Hughes ’68 was known for her love of learning and was a dedicated teacher,
even after retirement. Her family and friends established this scholarship in her
memory for an incoming or currently enrolled Southeastern student who graduated from
Loranger High School or Hammond High School and who has a minimum high school or college
GPA of 3.0.
Brenda Herson Hunter Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established with funds provided by Myer Feldman, a political aide
in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, and friend to former Southeastern President,
Dr. Sally Clausen. The scholarship recognizes the mother of Dr. Kim Hunter Reed,
Commissioner of Higher Education and is for any Southeastern student.
Gertie Hyde Endowed Scholarship in Visual Arts The scholarship was established by faculty and recognizes the dedication of the art
department‘s long time administrative assistant, Gertie Hyde. The scholarship supports
a student majoring in Art..
Larry Hymel Endowed Scholarship for Sports Journalism The scholarship was established by Larry Hymel ‘66, Larry was the longtime sports
information director for Athletics and a staff member in a number of campus departments
over his 50 year career at Southeastern. The scholarship will provide financial assistance
to a Southeastern student who is involved in sports writing for the University. At
the time she retired, Larry Hymel was recognized with a Lion for Life Lifetime Achievement
Award.
