HAMMOND – Normally as April begins, the staff at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Sims Library would be setting up the annual book sale and preparing for National Library Week. Not much is normal this year, so it should come as no surprise that Readings at Sims will be different too.
For 18 years, the highlight of the week has been Readings at Sims, an event that serves as an entertaining showcase for talented writers on campus and in our community who will read from their original works.
Readings at Sims is scheduled Tuesday, April 13, at 6 p.m. via Google Meet with Chad Foret of the English Department as the keynote presenter.
“This year, we had to rethink the entire week,” said Interim Head of Reference and event host Dayne Sherman. “Between COVID distancing and the calendar, we had to get creative and move the event online to Google Meet, rather than meeting at Sims Library.”
The Sims team also moved National Library Week to the week after Spring Break. National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities.
