The Clea and Peggy Parker Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established by their children, Brian Parker ‘78, Stephen Parker
‘79, Karen Parker Ellis ‘82, ‘88 and Robin Parker ‘86, ‘88 and their respective spouses.
Dr. Parker ‘48, served as the University’s president from 1968-1980 and was the
first Southeastern alumnus to also serve as its President. A hallmark of his Presidency
was to name students to University-wide committees, promoting an ‘open door’ policy
and being seen regularly visiting with students throughout the campus. Dr. Parker
received his undergraduate degree from Southeastern in Health and Physical Education.
The scholarship provides financial assistance to a student pursuing a degree in Education.
Anil and Sudha Patel Endowed Scholarship in Business The scholarship was established by Anil Patel ‘71 and his wife Sudha Patel ‘79. Anil
who is a former member of the Alumni Association Board, received an MBA at Southeastern
and Sudha received a degree in accounting from Southeastern. They have established
the scholarship to provide financial assistance to a student majoring in a discipline
of the College of Business.
E.M. “Mitch” Patterson Memorial Scholarship in Special Education The scholarship was established by Dr. Stephen Ragan, a former Dean of the College
of Education in the name of his grandfather, Everett Milford “Mitch” Patterson. The
scholarship will provide financial aid to a student pursuing a degree in Special
Education.
Scott Miller Patterson Endowed Scholarship in Athletics (Football) The scholarship was established by Malcolm Patterson ‘54 who played for the Lions
from 1950-1953. The scholarship benefits a Southeastern football player.
Cedric & Kimberley Patton Endowment Scholarship (Football) Cedric Patton ’82 played football for the Lions from 1978-1981. He and his wife Kimberley
established this scholarship to benefit a Southeastern football player.
Frances A. Payne Endowed Scholarship in Business Jack Payne established the scholarship in his mother France’s name. Jack was a successful
financial advisor with A.G. Edwards and served on the Southeastern Foundation Board
of Directors for many years. His scholarship benefits a student majoring in Finance.

Claude Bernard Pennington, Jr. Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established with a contribution from the Irene W. and C.B. Pennington
Foundation. Claude Pennington Jr. was a ‘49 grad of Southeastern and the scholarship
benefits a Southeastern student.
Bernice Ross Penland Endowed Scholarship in Nursing Ross Downing, prominent Hammond businessman and automobile dealer, endowed the scholarship
to honor his late mother, who worked tirelessly to support her family as a registered
nurse for over 60 years. The scholarship will provide assistance to a Nursing student
at Southeastern.
Russell and Allison Penzato Endowed Scholarship Southeastern sweethearts Russell and Allison Penzato established their scholarship
to benefit the current president of Southeastern’s Phi Mu sorority and the current
president of Southeastern’s Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
Joyce Paul Perrin Endowed Study Abroad Music Scholarship The scholarship was established by Pat McClellan ‘68, niece of Joyce Paul Perrin to
honor her aunt, a longtime member of the English faculty at Southeastern and “a
music lover to the ‘nth’ degree.” The scholarship is to assist students majoring in
Music/Voice.
Phi Kappa Phi Lou Ballard Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established during the organization’s 50th anniversary in 2005,
and is for an active member of the chapter. Lou Ballard, for whom the scholarship
is named, was its longtime secretary and by whom the history of the Southeastern chapter
of Phi Kappa Phi, “Our history…Our Legacy” was written. She is also remembered as
an emeritus professor of English at Southeastern.
David “Wolfie” Phillippe Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established by the family and friends of David “Wolfie” Philippe
along with the Gamma Beta Phi organization of which Wolfie was a treasured member.
Wolfie is remembered for his indomitable spirit racing around campus in his motorized
wheelchair. The scholarship is to benefit students with a physical disability, with
a preference for a member of Gamma Beta Phi.
Phi Mu-Pat Catlett Fendlason Memorial Scholarship The scholarship was established by Phi Mu alumni of the Alpha Psi chapter on the occasion
of their 50th Anniversary. It is named for Pat Catlett Fenlason, who was their longest
serving house mother. It benefits an Alpha Psi member who exhibits leadership and
commitment to the success of the chapter.
Joseph and Anna Piediscalzo Endowed Scholarship in BusinessThe scholarship was established by their grandson Danny Monistere ‘88, and other grandchildren,
Steve Piediscalzo and Ann Fox-need grad years. This scholarship will provide financial
assistance for students majoring in Business with preference given to first generation
students.
The Ply Family Endowed Scholarship for EnglishThe scholarship was established by members of the Ply family to support students majoring
in English
John B. Poche Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established by his wife and family in his memory. John B. Poche
‘82 was Managing Director in the Public Finance group for Raymond James, accumulating
over 25 years in the public finance industry over his professional career. The scholarship
will benefit Southeastern finance majors.
Ponchatoula Lions Club Excellence in Education Scholarships Lions clubs members serve to see communities inspired, equipped and transformed.
They believe that even the greatest challenges can be overcome by the power of kindness.
This Ponchatoula Lions Club provides scholarships to Ponchatoula High School or St.
Thomas Aquinas High school students from Ponchatoula. Home schooled students from
Ponchatoula may also qualify.
Ponchatoula Rotary-Ned Welles Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established by the Ponchatoula Rotary Club along with Sparky,
Cathy and Catie Welles in memory of their son and brother to benefit a student graduating
from Ponchatoula High School who had been a member of the Rotary Interact Club.Rotary
is a global network of neighbors, friends, leaders and problem-solvers who see a world
where people unite and take action to create lasting change-across the globe, in our
communities and in ourselves.
Patrick and Gail Ponder Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established by Patrick Ponder ‘63 and his wife Gail. Patrick
was a member of the Lions baseball team and served as the Treasurer and Vice President
of the Student Body Association. He was a CPA and partner in his own firm, Ponder
and Muscat. The scholarship supports a student in any discipline in the College of
Business.
Ray “Coon” & Jacklyn Porta Endowed Scholarship in Athletics A quarterback who played for the Lions in the early ‘50’s, Ray was a two time All-Gulf
States Conference selection leading the Lions to their second perfect season in 1954.
Ray Porta ‘55 was one of the most successful signal callers in Southeastern history,
and is a member of Southeastern’s Hall of Fame. The scholarship was established by
his son, Dr. Mark Porta in his parents’ honor, and it benefits a football or baseball
player.
John & Georgianne Poteet Endowed Scholarship in Baseball The scholarship for a baseball player was established by John and Georgianne Poteet
who moved to Hammond to establish their business and immediately became involved in
the community lending their time and financial support to many educational and civic
organizations. John is a member and Past-President of LAA and is a member and current
President of the Southeastern Foundation.
Ralph R. Pottle Honor Scholarship in MusicDr. Ralph Pottle Sr. was the organizer of Southeastern’s Department of Music and Fine
Arts, and served as the Department Head until 1964. His son, Ralph Jr. and his daughter,
Fern Pottle Atkinson and their respective spouses, Constance and Condit, along with
colleagues, alumni and friends endowed the scholarship in his memory. The scholarship
is awarded to an outstanding Music major at the end of their freshman year.
PRIDE Endowed Scholarship Fund The scholarship was established by the PRIDE organization that supports Women’s Basketball.
Pride was established to mentor the young women on the team and the funds were raised
from contributions and proceeds from the annual Bunko for Basketball event. It supports
a woman basketball player who has completed her eligibility to play but who has not
yet graduated.
Robert “Bob” George Priez Scholarship in Music The scholarship was established by the friends and family of Bob Priez. A much loved
and admired faculty member, Bob retired from a 33 year teaching career at Southeastern
as Professor Emeritus of Music, He also served as the music director at St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Hammond.
Julius J. Prokop, Jr. Endowed Presidential Level Scholarship in AccountingJulius Prokop, Jr. was a 1962 Accounting grad. He established the scholarship in
recognition of the support and nurture he received as a student at Southeastern.
He worked for the federal government as an Auditor and later for the Internal Revenue
Service, and the Hood Motor Company in Amite. Later in life he established his own
CPA firm. The scholarship, funded by a bequest, will provide financial assistance
to an outstanding junior or senior Accounting major with a significant need.
The Leola Purcell Endowed Scholarship in the Visual and Performing ArtsMrs. Purcell endowed the scholarship with a bequest to the University. She and her
husband came to Hammond from Gainesville, Georgia and they were active citizens of
the Hammond community. B.C. served on the board of directors of Citizens National
Bank and was active in the Kiwanis Club. Leola enjoyed and supported the arts.
The scholarship provides support to a student pursuing a degree in any of the performing
arts.
John T. Purser Endowed Scholarship in EnglishJohn Purser was a Professor of English and also served as the Director of Institutional
Research for Southeastern. His daughter Dorothy “Dottie” Purser ‘61 endowed the scholarship
to assist a student majoring in English at Southeastern.
Zada Ellis Cheatwood Quin Endowed Scholarship The scholarship was established by Billy Quin ‘63 and his wife, Donna Hornsby Quin
‘71 in memory of his mother. Billy was the student body President his senior year
at Southeastern and went on to obtain a law degree becoming an Assistant District
Attorney in the 21st District, attorney for his hometown Kentwood, and in his later
years was a public defender. While at Southeastern, Donna was a Lionette and member
of AOPi, receiving a degree in Home Economics education. The scholarship is awarded
to the SGA President.
