General Information

Information for High Schools

A Southeastern faculty member, designated as the Instructor of Record, develops and administers all Southeastern Dual Enrollment courses. The Instructor of Record closely monitors student and teacher engagement and provides the necessary course materials as well as all assessments required for the Southeastern grade. Additionally, all grading of assessments, as laid out in the Southeastern course syllabus, is performed by the Southeastern Instructor of Record. Instruction is provided by the Southeastern Instructor of Record virtually, online and in person.

School Benefits

  • High schools can offer a broader range of courses with college content and rigor.
  • High school teachers can benefit from professional development opportunities available through various academic departments.
  • High schools can better prepare their students for college readiness by exposing them to college-level material while they are in their familiar high school environment.

School Requirements

  • The high school, or district office, signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Southeastern to offer DE courses at their facility and complies with all requirements outlined therein.
  • The high school assigns a teacher who has completed the required Southeastern summer workshop for the specific course being offered. This teacher is referred to as a dual enrollment course facilitator.
  • The high school ensures that course facilitators comply with all Southeastern policies and procedures as they relate to dual enrollment.
  • The high school must provide appropriate classroom space, time and all necessary technology for completion of the course.
  • The high school must have a companion high school course that the student is enrolled in that “matches” the dual enrollment course.

Information for Students

Start your college career with dual enrollment at Southeastern and get an edge. Students participating in our Dual Enrollment Program have the potential to begin their college careers at the sophomore level. Here are a few things that you should know:

  • Southeastern offers dual enrollment courses to your high school, not directly to you. As such your high school must be partnered with and have signed a Dual Enrollment Memorandum of Understanding for the semester(s) in which you wish to enroll at Southeastern.
  • Each 3-credit hour dual enrollment course costs $225 (2024-2025 rate). There is no application fee and there is no textbook rental fee. Southeastern textbooks will be provided to your school for you to use while enrolled in the dual enrollment course.
  • All dual enrollment final course grades will be recorded on your permanent, Southeastern transcript. Please note that should you withdraw from a course, your transcript will include a grade of W for each withdrawn course.

In a word, “Yes”. Dual Enrollment provides high school students with tremendous advantages over students that choose not to dual enrollment. Although dual enrollment may appear daunting to some students, consider these advantages:

  • Academic Preparation: Gain exposure to college-level expectations and rigor before fully entering college.
  • Improved college readiness: Develop critical thinking, time management, and study skills needed for advancement in college while studying with students that you know and the familiar surrounding of your high school.
  • Confidence building: Succeeding in college-level courses can boost self-esteem and academic confidence.
  • Cost Savings: Dual Enrollment offers Southeastern courses at a significantly reduced rate.
  • Acceleration: Dual Enrollment empowers students to complete a significant portion, or all, of their first-year college coursework while still in high school, potentially shortening the time needed to earn a college degree.
  • Exploring interests: Try out different subjects and potential majors without committing fully.
  • Improved Performance: Dual Enrollment students tend to have higher GPAs and perform better in subsequent courses compared to students that do not participate in dual enrollment.

To qualify for dual enrollment, you must meet these criteria:

  • Attend a Louisiana public or private high school that is partnered with Southeastern’s Dual Enrollment Program (check with your high school counselor if you are unsure).
  • Students should be in the 11th and/or 12th grade.
  • Maintain good standing according to your high school’s standards maintaining at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Meet the specific ACT/SAT test scores as outlined on Southeastern’s Dual Enrollment website and meet published course prerequisites.
  • Be concurrently enrolled in the corresponding high school course and have grades recorded on both your secondary and postsecondary academic records.
  • You don’t meet all of these criteria? Please check with your high school counselor. There may still be a way for you to participate in the program through a “Counselor Recommendation.”

Below are the steps that you need to take to apply for Southeastern’s dual enrollment program.

  • If you have never participated in the program, you will need to complete a SLATE application. There is a link on the main dual enrollment website here.
  • After completing your application check with your high school counselor as he/she will need to send your high school transcript and test scores to [email protected].
Check your email so that you know when you SLATE application has been approved.
  • Let your high school counselor know which courses you are interested in so that he/she can put you on the roster that is submitted to Southeastern.
  • Once you have been enrolled in the course, check your email for information on how to create your Canvas account and log in.

Requesting a Southeastern transcript

As mentioned above, all academic work is recorded on your permanent Southeastern transcript. This document is required by all academic institutions upon acceptance. Therefore, should you choose to attend another college or university, you will need to request an official copy of your transcript in order for it to be sent. Your high school counselor cannot request a transcript and your high school teacher cannot request your transcript. Only you can put in an official request for your Southeastern transcripts. There is a button on the main dual enrollment website that you can click to begin. Below is general information regarding that request.

Southeastern offers an official transcript showing your Dual Enrollment courses and final grades. There is a $5 fee to have an electronic PDF copy of your transcript sent or $10 fee for printed transcripts to be either picked up or mailed for you. Refer to the Dual Enrollment website for information on our Parchment partner and instructions for requesting official transcripts.

Transcript Request

If you have any questions about transcripts or college records, please contact the Office of the Registrar at [email protected] or call 985-549-5637. The Office of the Registrar is responsible for all official academic records at Southeastern Louisiana University. It’s important to note that Southeastern’s Dual Enrollment Office does not handle or process requests to distribute college records or transcripts.
