Tuition FAQs

Louisiana Act 790 (2024) allows public universities to set and raise tuition and mandatory fees within limits. Southeastern and the other eight University of Louisiana System institutions submitted campus-specific plans to the ULS Board in February. Southeastern’s approved plan, effective fall 2025, includes differential tuition and fee increases for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Southeastern has not implemented an increase in tuition since 2017.

There are three primary changes to tuition and fees.  The addition of: (1) Differential tuition assessed on  high cost programs; (2) Act 790 General Fee and (3) Student Excellence Fee.

  • Differential tuition will be assessed on high cost programs as defined by the Louisiana Board of Regents. This would be no more than $80 per full-time undergraduate student or $90 per full-time graduate student.

  • The Student Excellence Fee applies to students in the College of Honors and Excellence, including students in their first 30 hours and Honors students.

  • Act 790 General Fee is a graduated per credit hour fee that caps at $335 per semester for full-time undergraduate students and $350 for full-time graduate students.

Important: Students will not be charged both the Student Excellence Fee and differential tuition for high-cost programs. So, the most any student will pay in additional tuition and fees is $415 for full-time undergraduate students and $440 for full-time graduate students per semester.

For full-time undergraduate students, the tuition and fee increase will range from $335 to a maximum of $415 per semester. For full-time graduate students, the tuition and fee increase will be $440 per semester. No student will experience an increase of more than 10% over last year’s tuition and fee rates.

No, continuing undergraduate students maintaining eligibility in the Southeastern Promise will not experience an increase in tuition or fees as outlined in the Promise agreement.
