Today is the first day of campus operations following our extended closure that began with the passing of Hurricane Ida three weeks ago. I intentionally chose not to reference today’s reopening as resumption of “normal” campus operations because some parts of our campus are not completely restored, and some members of our Southeastern family continue to deal with recovery issues.

Apparently, the Louisiana Legislature had been counting on the often-heard idiom, "Third time's the charm." In this year's third special session which ended Sunday, the Legislature finally agreed to a solution that allows the state to avert the July 1 fiscal cliff that was rapidly approaching.

Following a somewhat ignominious June 8 end to the Regular Legislative Session and the associated failure to adopt a State budget, the Louisiana Legislature accomplished the necessary task this past week in a brief special session that ended on June 16, 2017.
