(1) PKP SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT – Mechelle Rouchon, left, a junior English major from Clinton, is the recipient of the Southeastern Louisiana University Phi Kappa Phi Endowed Scholarship, established by the chapter of the national honor society in 2006 to honor its 50th anniversary. Rouchon was announced as the second recipient of the scholarship at the chapter’s annual banquet on May 1. Shown with her is Phi Kappa Phi President Cary Berthelot. Rouchon also received Phi Kappa Phi’s Outstanding Junior award for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

(6) SOUTHEASTERN PHI KAPPA PHI INITIATES (INTERNATIONAL) – Two international students, Sruthi Mareedu of Hyderabad, India, and Estera Pirosca of Brăila, Romania, were among the Southeastern Louisiana University students from East Feliciana Parish inducted May 1 into the university’s chapter of the prestigious national honor society Phi Kappa Phi. Both students currently reside in Hammond.

(11) SOUTHEASTERN PHI KAPPA PHI INITIATES (JEFFERSON) – Christina Marie Dinwiddie of Kenner was among the Southeastern Louisiana University students from East Feliciana Parish inducted May 1 into the university’s chapter of the prestigious national honor society Phi Kappa Phi.

 

(12) SOUTHEASTERN PHI KAPPA PHI INITIATES (LAFOURCHE) – Lauren Eserman and Meggie Elizabeth Doucet of Raceland were among the Southeastern Louisiana University students from East Feliciana Parish inducted May 1 into the university’s chapter of the prestigious national honor society Phi Kappa Phi.


     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University has inducted 65 new members graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and alumni into its chapter of the prestigious national honor society, Phi Kappa Phi.

     To be considered for membership in Phi Kappa Phi, a student must be in the top 10 percent of the senior or graduate class or a second-semester junior in the top 7.5 percent of his/her class. Faculty and alumni are chosen for outstanding contributions to their fields.

     At the chapter’s annual induction banquet May 1, Southeastern Phi Kappa Phi honored senior exercise science major and track and field student-athlete Craig Thomas of St. Catherine, Jamaica, who is one of 60 national recipients of a $5,000 fellowship for post-graduate study by the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Thomas, the fifth Southeastern student and second in two years to receive the fellowship, plans to use the award to pursue a career in biomedical sciences. His goal is to earn a doctoral degree in biomedical sciences followed by a medical degree.

     The honors organization also presented the Phi Kappa Phi Endowed Scholarship, established in 2006 in honor of the chapter’s 50th anniversary, to Mechelle Rouchon, an English major from Clinton. Rouchon also received the Outstanding Junior award in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

     The honors organization also recognized as Outstanding Juniors finance major Tiffany Mizell of Livingston, College of Business; elementary education major Aimee Chavers of Denham Springs, College of Education and Human Development; general studies major Brittany Ann DeWitt of Tylertown, Miss., Division of General Studies; exercise science major Emily McMillan of Greenwell Springs, College of Nursing and Health Sciences; and biological sciences/pre-medicine major Meggie Elizabeth Doucet of Raceland and chemistry major Rebecca J. Weber of Hammond, College of Science and Technology. The Outstanding Freshman Award was presented to Megan O’Neal of Greenwell Springs, while Anthony Mele of Hammond received the Outstanding Honor Student award.

     The initiates included Southeastern faculty members David Hanson, head of the Department of English; Paul Sawyer, associate professor of English; Deborah Dardis, associate professor of biological sciences, and Stella Helluin, director of the St. Tammany Center, and Southeastern graduate Wendy Johns, assistant vice-president for university advancement.
