About

The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a pre-professional association for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. Founded in 1972, NSSLHA is the national organization for graduate and undergraduate students interested in the study of normal and disordered human communication. NSSLHA is the only official national student association recognized by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). NSSLHA has approximately 13,000 members with chapters at more than 300 colleges and universities. Provided by www.nsslha.org

Purpose

The purpose of this organization is:

  • to encourage professional interest among college and university students in the study of normal and disordered human communication,

  • to assist college and university departments and local organizations interested in speech, hearing and language behaviors and disorders,

  • to provide continuity to the dissemination of professional information, and,

  • to provide a vehicle for student representation in matters of professional concern.

Membership Information

Who: Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program at Southeastern Louisiana University

Application: All members must complete an online application every semester. Below is the link to the NSSLHA member application:

GPA: Members must maintain a 2.5 for undergraduates and a 3.0 for graduates

Dues: New members - $15.00 (includes a t-shirt)

          Returning members - $7.00 per semester

Membership Requirements:

To maintain an active local NSSLHA member status, members must:

  • attend two meetings per semester

  • complete 5 event hours per semester

Meetings

  • Meeting dates and times vary each semester. There are four meetings per semester, once a month

  • Officers will send emails to active members regarding meeting information

  • Members can check the bulletin board outside of room 210 in Campbell Hall for information about upcoming meetings

  • Meeting dates and times are also posted on the NSSLHA website

  • Meetings include announcements, guest speakers, food, and fun
